The Making of S.C.I.F.I Inkworld

This summer has been full of creativity and heart. I wanted both of my children to be part of this new, fun venture with me, and that’s when I decided Sylus needed his own logo—and his own series of books.

It’s called S.C.I.F.I Inkworld, which stands for Sylus’s Collection of Imagination, Fantasy & Ideas.

Sylus has always loved to create, draw, build, and design. His creativity showed up early—he was the kind of kid who built detailed, functional LEGO vehicles straight from his imagination, never from a book. His teachers often commented on how much he loved art and how purposeful his drawings were. Everything had a reason, a story, a design. And that’s still true today, now that he’s 12.

His dream is to design and build video games, and he's already teaching himself coding to work toward that goal. So when I asked him if he wanted to make books with me, of course he said yes.

His first title, Sylus’s Bizarre ABCs Book, has been such a fun project for both of us. It reflects our family’s humor perfectly—quirky, weird, and creative in the best way. I honestly can’t wait to see what he’ll come up with next. He has so many wild ideas I can barely keep up.

I never planned to write and illustrate books on my own—though I’ve absolutely fallen in love with the process. What I really wanted was to build something that felt like family and community, something we could grow together.

S.C.I.F.I Inkworld represents Sylus in all the best and most imaginative ways, and I’m so proud to see him stepping into his creativity. His first book will be launching proudly within the next month, and this is only the beginning.
